BRICS’ Expansion Interest from 40 Countries Signals Shift in Global Order

The founder of the ‘BRICS Generation’ organization in India announced that nearly 40 countries expressing interest in joining BRICS reflects the Global South’s desire to establish a more inclusive and balanced international order.
According to TV BRICS, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the group’s founding, a number of media managers and experts from BRICS member and partner countries shared their views on the evolution of the alliance and the future of global cooperation in a special project.
R. Mothu Kumar, editor of the newspapers Trinity Mirror and Mekal Coral and founder of the non-governmental organization ‘BRICS Generation,’ described this anniversary as a milestone in expanding global cooperation. He stated that over the past two decades, BRICS has evolved from an economic initiative into one of the influential voices of the Global South.
He added that the expansion of membership and growing partnerships across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America indicate that many countries desire an order based on collective participation and greater balance. According to him, this trend reflects a gradual move toward multilateralism and joint decision-making on global issues in the international system.
Referring to the positions of Narendra Modi, India’s Prime Minister, Kumar said that countries in the Global South can play a more active role in international developments by strengthening convergence. He viewed India’s perspective on BRICS as going beyond a diplomatic forum and emphasized that the group could serve as a strategic platform for developing cooperation along trade routes and energy corridors.
The Indian expert also underscored the role of media in strengthening BRICS cooperation, saying that media outlets like TV BRICS facilitate dialogue among nations, contributing to the convergence of emerging economies and better coordination in reforming global governance systems, including within the United Nations framework.
According to him, the expansion of members and formation of new partnerships on the eve of BRICS’s 20th anniversary sends a clear message to the international community: the world is moving toward an order where Global South countries will have greater share and responsibility in determining the future of the international system.
