UN Chief Calls for Immediate Halt to Afghanistan-Pakistan Clashes Amid Civilian Casualties

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has called for an immediate stop to the clashes and protection of civilians following escalating tensions and recent airstrikes between Afghanistan and Pakistan. He emphasized that the ongoing violence poses a serious threat to civilian lives.
Stephane Dujarric, the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, announced that Guterres is deeply concerned about the recent surge in violence that has resulted in civilian casualties. According to him, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has confirmed that Pakistan’s airstrikes in the provinces of Paktia, Paktika, and Kunar have killed at least 28 civilians and injured 49 others.
The United Nations stated that these attacks have also caused displacement among local residents, forcing some families to flee their homes. Humanitarian aid organizations are currently assessing the affected areas and preparing to deliver emergency assistance to those impacted.
The UN Secretary-General has urged both sides to resolve their differences through diplomatic channels and to adhere to their obligations under international humanitarian law. He stressed that protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure must be prioritized under all circumstances.
