The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) announced that during the fourth round of consultations between its Secretariat and the United Nations Secretariat, topics including ensuring stability in Afghanistan, maintaining peace and security in Central Asia, and expanding bilateral cooperation were discussed.

According to the SCO’s newsletter, the meeting took place on Saturday at the United Nations headquarters in New York City. The SCO delegation was led by Ahmad Saeed Moradzadeh, Deputy Secretary-General of the organization, while the UN delegation was headed by Mohammed Khalid Khiari, Deputy Secretary-General for Middle East, Europe, America, and Asia-Pacific Affairs.

Published information indicates that both sides exchanged views on issues related to their common areas of work. The SCO delegation also provided updates on preparations for the upcoming SCO summit in Bishkek, outcomes of ministerial meetings during Kyrgyzstan’s chairmanship period, ongoing internal reforms, and cooperation with specialized UN agencies.

In response, the UN delegation explained its activities within the framework of the agenda “Climate, Peace, and Security,” efforts towards Afghanistan’s stability, and support programs for Central Asian countries aimed at enhancing sustainable peace and stability in the region.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization added that these consultations were conducted in a constructive atmosphere and that relations between the Secretariats of the two organizations continue based on a joint cooperation declaration signed in Tashkent in 2010.
