Taliban Justice Ministry Detains Tamadon TV Director and Employee in Solitary Confinement

Tamadon TV has announced that Mohammad Rahmati, the director of the media outlet, and Mohammadreza Ehsani, one of its employees, have been detained by order of the Taliban’s Ministry of Justice. According to the official statement by the TV channel, the two were arrested six days ago and are currently being held in solitary confinement.

In a statement published today, Saturday, June 26, on Tamadon TV’s official Facebook page, it was stated that these individuals were “detained without a court order and without any charges being announced.” The media outlet has called on relevant authorities to expedite their release.

Tamadon TV also emphasized that the health condition of the director does not justify his imprisonment and warned that if any harm occurs, the direct responsibility will fall on the authority that issued the arrest order without legal justification. So far, the Taliban’s Ministry of Justice has not provided any clarification regarding this matter.

According to the statement, the detention of the two media employees occurred two days before forces associated with the Taliban’s Ministry of Justice raided Tamadon TV’s central building. These forces entered the media’s office around midday on Tuesday last week, halted its broadcasts, and sealed the headquarters.

Simultaneously, the Taliban’s Ministry of Justice also closed the Khatam al-Nabiyyin religious seminary in Kabul. These developments have heightened concerns about restrictions on media outlets and educational institutions, raising serious questions about the respect for fundamental citizens’ rights amid a lack of legal transparency and free access to justice.
