Taliban’s Abdul Ghani Baradar Meets Qatar’s Ambassador to Discuss Investment and Economic Cooperation

Abdul Ghani Baradar, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of the Taliban administration, met with Mordaf Al-Qashouti, Qatar’s ambassador, in Kabul to discuss expanding economic cooperation and Qatari investment in Afghanistan.
According to a statement from the office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, the two sides exchanged views on Qatar’s investment in Afghanistan, enhancing economic relations between Kabul and Doha, and some regional issues. No specific details were provided regarding the potential volume of investment or targeted sectors.
Since the fall of the former republican government and the Taliban’s return to power, Qatar has been one of the few countries to maintain active engagement with the Taliban administration. Beyond political relations, Qatar has played a role in humanitarian aid and facilitating certain diplomatic processes.
While the Taliban administration seeks to improve the country’s economic situation through attracting foreign investment, challenges such as lack of transparency in contracts, banking restrictions, and ongoing international isolation of Afghanistan remain significant obstacles to sustainable investment. Economic experts emphasize that establishing clear legal frameworks and guaranteeing investor confidence are prerequisites for any long-term cooperation.
