5.2 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Badakhshan in Northeast Afghanistan

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has reported a 5.2 magnitude earthquake that struck parts of northeastern Afghanistan, particularly the Badakhshan province. According to recorded data, the earthquake occurred at 10:22:23 UTC, corresponding to 14:52:23 local time. The epicenter was located 42 kilometers southwest of Jurm district. The quake’s focus was recorded at a depth of 207 kilometers, classifying it as a relatively deep earthquake. As of the time of this report, no information about casualties or possible damages has been released. Badakhshan province, due to its mountainous terrain and location within the Hindu Kush mountain range, is considered one of the earthquake-prone areas of the country. Earthquakes of varying intensities are recorded there annually, consistently raising concerns among the local residents.
