Israel Orders Ceasefire in Southern Lebanon Without Withdrawing Positions

Israeli Prime Minister and Defense Minister have instructed the country’s military to implement a ceasefire in southern Lebanon while maintaining their currently held positions. This decision comes amid ongoing military operations in parts of Lebanese territory and a security situation still described as fragile.
According to Israeli media reports, Benjamin Netanyahu and Yisrael Katz have ordered the army to carry out the ceasefire without abandoning areas under their control. Meanwhile, the head of the Israeli military’s general staff, following a security situation assessment meeting, issued guidelines on how to implement the ceasefire in southern Lebanon.
Despite the ceasefire announcement, the emphasis on retaining military positions in southern Lebanon indicates that tensions have not completely ceased and the possibility of continued clashes remains. Southern Lebanon has in recent years been a primary hotspot for military confrontations between Israel and armed groups in the country.
At the same time, several Israeli analysts and media outlets have criticized the performance of the country’s political leaders. They have stated that the Israeli military is facing constraints under regional pressures, including those attributed to Iran, and has been forced to accept new conditions in the security calculations.
Some military analysts speaking to Israeli domestic media have referred to a “shift in the balance of power” in the region. However, official Israeli authorities have not yet directly commented on these assessments.
