Iran Sends Delegation to Switzerland to Follow Up on Commitment Implementation

A spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a delegation from the country is traveling to Switzerland today to discuss and follow up on the implementation of commitments outlined in the recent memorandum of understanding with the counterpart. According to the spokesperson, the trip aims to demand the practical fulfillment of these commitments, with Iran emphasizing the principle of “commitment for commitment.”
Before departing for Switzerland at Mehrabad Airport, Esmail Baqaei said the trip was initially scheduled for Friday to sign the memorandum of understanding, but the document was signed digitally, reducing the urgency for an in-person meeting. He stressed that the main focus now is on how to implement the terms of the agreement.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson noted that Clause 13 of the memorandum specifies that negotiations to reach a final agreement will begin once the implementation of commitments outlined in Clauses 1, 4, 5, 10, and 11 has started and continues. He added that from Tehran’s perspective, there have not been sufficient signs of fulfilling these commitments, and the delegation will seek clarification on their implementation during this trip.
Baqaei described the first clause of the memorandum as the most important section of the reciprocal commitments, highlighting that it calls for an end to the war on all fronts, including Lebanon. He stated that Iran has upheld its commitments and expected the counterpart and its allies, especially the Israeli regime, to enforce a ceasefire in Lebanon—a matter that, according to him, has not been fully realized and could be considered a violation of the ceasefire understanding.
At the same time, he noted that measures have been taken to end the naval blockade and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, but the memorandum constitutes a comprehensive package, and the failure to implement any part could challenge the entire agreement. He warned that if the implementation of commitments, especially in crucial sections, is delayed or halted, the core understanding will be jeopardized.
The spokesperson emphasized that this commitment was achieved after weeks of intensive negotiations and mediators’ efforts, and Tehran has signed it for implementation. He added that if the counterpart refuses to fulfill its commitments, Iran will likewise adopt necessary reciprocal measures.
