At Least 24 Dead in Protests in Pakistan-Administered Kashmir

At least 24 people have been killed and dozens more injured after two weeks of protests and clashes in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Local authorities have confirmed that among the casualties, four police officers were also killed and 97 others injured during the unrest.
According to officials, the protests began in response to the allocation of 12 special seats for the parliamentary elections in the region and continue to this day. Protesters have condemned the decision as unfair and are demanding a review of the seat distribution mechanism.
Official sources added that security forces have arrested more than 500 individuals following the escalation of clashes. Further details about the status of those detained and the condition of the injured have not yet been released.
Kashmir is a disputed territory in South Asia, part of which is administered by Pakistan. Political developments in the region have always been accompanied by significant domestic and regional sensitivities.
