Afghanistan’s Central Bank Bans Entry of Regional Currencies to Stabilize Afghani

Da Afghanistan Bank has announced a ban on the entry of currencies from neighboring countries into Afghanistan, urging traders, money exchangers, transport companies, and travelers to refrain from transferring these currencies into the country.
In its statement, the bank asked citizens to use the national currency, the Afghani, in all financial transactions. It noted that “the Afghani is more stable compared to regional currencies.”
However, the announcement did not specify which countries’ currencies are considered “regional currencies,” nor did it define the scope of the ban. The lack of clear details may cause confusion among economic actors and travelers.
Da Afghanistan Bank, which operates under the Taliban administration, has previously emphasized the widespread use of the Afghani within domestic markets. Economic experts say that any decisions in the monetary and banking sectors require full clarity and transparent communication to prevent market confusion and avoid harm to commercial activities.
