Iranian Delegation Meets Taliban Officials to Discuss Expanding Trade Ties

An Iranian trade delegation, led by Mahmoud Siadat, head of the Iran-Afghanistan Joint Chamber of Commerce, met with Nooruddin Azizi, the Taliban administration’s Minister of Industry and Trade, in Kabul to discuss expanding economic and trade cooperation between the two sides. The meeting focused on increasing trade exchanges and creating new opportunities for collaboration.
Kamaluddin Tawleed, head of the Afghanistan-Iran Joint Chamber of Commerce, was also present at the meeting. At the start of the session, he presented a report on the Iranian delegation’s meetings with officials from Afghanistan’s chambers of commerce and investment, as well as representatives from the industries, mining, and agriculture sectors.
According to a statement from the Taliban’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, both parties reviewed ways to develop economic cooperation in light of the growing trend of commercial exchanges. Major discussion points included holding Iranian industrial and agricultural exhibitions in Afghanistan and signing executive memorandums of understanding to facilitate bilateral trade.
Mahmoud Siadat emphasized the importance of comprehensive security across Afghanistan for attracting investment and noted that major Iranian companies are interested in investing in various economic sectors in the country.
However, given that the Taliban administration remains unrecognized by the international community, economic actors consistently stress the need to establish clear legal frameworks, practical guarantees for investors, and stability in economic policies—factors that directly impact foreign investment decisions.
In conclusion, both sides underscored the continuation of dialogue and follow-up on joint programs to develop economic relations between Kabul and Tehran.
