Afghanistan Bank Deputy Meets US-Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce Head to Boost Banking and Investment Ties

The First Deputy Governor of Da Afghanistan Bank met with the President of the Afghanistan-U.S. Joint Chamber of Commerce to emphasize the development of banking relations, strengthening the private sector, and increasing investment opportunities. The meeting took place at Sadullah Khalid’s office, where both sides discussed banking system stability and the expansion of economic cooperation.

According to information released by the spokesperson’s office of Da Afghanistan Bank, the meeting covered topics such as expanding relationships between Afghan commercial banks and banking networks, facilitating trade activities, and increasing investment opportunities. The strengthening of banking sector infrastructure was also emphasized as a prerequisite for economic growth.

The First Deputy Governor of Da Afghanistan Bank stated that the institution supports the growth of the private sector alongside creating a stable banking system and is ready to expand constructive cooperation with domestic and international institutions. He added that strengthening the banking sector and expanding private sector activities are fundamental pillars of economic progress and sustainable welfare in the country.

Meanwhile, Jeff Greico, President of the Afghanistan-U.S. Joint Chamber of Commerce, also emphasized expanding joint cooperation to facilitate trade activities, improve financial services, and support investors.

At the end of the meeting, issues such as resolving banking problems faced by traders, developing electronic banking, international money transfers, and improving financial services were reviewed. This comes at a time when Afghanistan’s banking system has faced serious challenges in foreign financial relations over recent years due to international restrictions and the Taliban administration’s lack of official recognition. Traders have consistently complained about difficulties in money transfers and access to banking services.
