Over 4,600 Tons of Waste Collected in Kabul During Eid al-Adha Celebrations

The Kabul Municipality’s Sanitation Department announced that during the day of Arafah and the three days of Eid al-Adha, a total of 4,653 tons of waste and debris were collected from various areas of Kabul and transferred to landfill sites.

According to a statement released by the Kabul Municipality on Sunday, this operation began on Tuesday, 26 May 2026 (5th of Jawza 1405 in the Afghan calendar), coinciding with the day of Arafah, and continued until Friday, 29 May 2026, the third day of Eid al-Adha. The statistics provided indicate that on the day of Arafah, 1,347 tons of waste were collected; on the first day of Eid, 1,157 tons; on the second day, 1,295 tons; and on the third day, 854 tons from different parts of the city.

Officials from Kabul’s municipality credited this achievement to the continuous efforts of the city’s sanitation staff and stated that urban services continued without interruption during the holiday period. Eid al-Adha is considered one of the major religious occasions in Afghanistan, usually accompanied by a significant increase in waste resulting from livestock slaughter.

However, Kabul residents have repeatedly complained in recent years about waste management issues and litter scattered in certain areas, calling for more consistent attention. Kabul Municipality has also urged residents to cooperate with sanitation workers to maintain cleanliness and improve waste management in the city.
