India Expresses Sympathy, Sends Aid to Afghanistan Quake Victims

Following a powerful earthquake in northern Afghanistan, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar held a phone call with Amir Khan Muttaqi, Acting Foreign Minister of the Taliban administration, to offer condolences to the families of the victims and those affected by the disaster.
In a statement shared on his official account on the X social media platform, Jaishankar also emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between the people of the two countries and enhancing bilateral relations.
A spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs announced that the Indian government has sent a significant quantity of food supplies to assist families impacted by the earthquake. The aid delivery comes amid urgent calls for humanitarian assistance in the quake-hit areas.
The situation is unfolding as the Taliban administration continues to face challenges in providing effective aid, largely due to its lack of international recognition and its inadequate service delivery capabilities. Humanitarian organizations and partner nations have repeatedly warned of restrictions imposed by the Taliban that hinder relief efforts.
