WFP Warns of Severe Funding Shortages Impacting Food Aid in Afghanistan

The World Food Programme (WFP) has stated that its food and nutrition assistance is vital for millions of vulnerable mothers and children in Afghanistan but is facing severe pressure due to a critical funding shortage. According to the announcement, nine out of every ten individuals suffering from acute hunger are being denied aid due to financial gaps.
The agency added that rising costs have further limited its capacity to provide services to the most vulnerable groups, challenging the continuation of life-saving support. Afghanistan has been grappling with a widespread economic and humanitarian crisis in recent years; a crisis that has worsened following the Taliban’s return to power and has left millions dependent on humanitarian aid.
The WFP emphasized that at this critical juncture, the support of international partners is essential to sustain vital nutrition assistance. The organization has expressed gratitude for cooperation from countries like Iceland, stating that such support helps maintain services for those most in need.
Humanitarian agencies have previously warned that if financial resources continue to decline, the scale of aid will be further reduced—a situation that could place the lives of millions of mothers and children across the country at even greater risk.
