Imports via Khaf-Herat Railway Increase Fivefold, Taliban Claim

The Taliban administration in Afghanistan’s Herat province claims that imports via the Khaf-Herat railway line have increased fivefold compared to last year, with up to 2,000 tons of goods now entering Afghanistan daily from Iran through this route.

According to Taliban officials, unloading operations at the Rozanak station continue on a daily basis. The railway, which connects Khaf in Iran to Herat in western Afghanistan, is considered one of the key infrastructure projects between the two countries.

Recently, the first diesel shipment was delivered to Herat via this railway, and Taliban officials said a second fuel shipment is expected to arrive by the end of this week.

While the Taliban seek to promote the Khaf-Herat railway as a strategic link connecting Afghanistan to Central Asia and Europe, the project’s full potential remains underutilized due to a lack of transparency, poor management, and Afghanistan’s international isolation under Taliban rule.
