Reconstruction Begins on 16.8-Kilometer Kabul-Parwan Highway

The Taliban’s Public Works Department has announced the start of reconstruction work on a 16.8-kilometer stretch of road from Kochian area in Kabul province to Kotol Sofian in Parwan province. According to the department, the estimated cost of this project is over 174 million Afghanis.

In a press release issued by the department, it was stated that upon completion of this project, the travel difficulties for local residents and passengers on this main highway will be reduced. This route is among the important communication roads connecting Kabul with parts of Parwan province.

The Kabul-Parwan highway is one of the busiest routes in the country, used daily by hundreds of cargo and passenger vehicles. Previous damages to this road over the past years have led to frequent complaints from drivers and local residents.

Despite the announcement of the start of work, the Taliban administration has not yet released details about the project’s completion timeline or how budget expenditure will be monitored; an issue that citizens consistently raise as one of their main concerns regarding infrastructure projects.
