Russia Urges Immediate Evacuation of Diplomats from Kyiv Ahead of Victory Day

Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, has called on all countries to evacuate their diplomats and citizens from Kyiv to ensure their safety ahead of the upcoming Victory Day celebrations. She warned that this precaution is necessary due to the possibility of an attack by Ukraine coinciding with the Soviet Union’s World War II victory commemoration.
On Wednesday (May 6), Zakharova issued a statement saying that this message has also been conveyed to foreign political missions in Moscow. She cautioned that in the event of any attack, Russia would target decision-making centers in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, with retaliatory strikes.
The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that foreign countries should evacuate their diplomatic personnel and citizens from Kyiv before the Victory Day event to avoid potential dangers.
The Victory Day celebration is scheduled for Saturday (May 8). The ceremony is held annually to mark the anniversary of Nazi Germany’s defeat by the Soviet Union during World War II and is one of Russia’s major national events.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking on Monday at the European Political Community summit in Yerevan, stated that “Ukrainian drones will fly over Moscow’s Victory Day parade.” Moscow described these remarks as a “terrorist attack threat” and announced preparations for a possible response.
