Taliban Authorities Report Recruitment of 400 Young Men from Panjshir into Police Forces

The Taliban’s police commander in Panjshir province has announced that 400 young residents of the province have been recruited into the police structure. Ahmadullah Badar made these remarks during a meeting with Mohammad Nazar, a senior official from the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior, stating that this process was carried out to create employment opportunities for the youth of Panjshir.

According to him, the recruitment was conducted in coordination with the security and administrative bodies of the Taliban administration. He did not provide further details regarding the duties, levels of responsibility, or the positions these individuals will hold within the police structure.

Previously, the Taliban administration had also claimed that hundreds of young men from Panjshir had joined their army ranks. However, reports indicate that the majority of military, police, and intelligence personnel within the Taliban are predominantly from southern and eastern provinces of Afghanistan.

Furthermore, local sources say that Panjshir residents are rarely appointed to high-ranking military and security posts and are mostly employed in lower-level positions. This issue has consistently been a point of criticism regarding the distribution of authority and opportunities within the Taliban’s administrative structure.

Panjshir province, which has witnessed widespread clashes and operations following the changes in 2021, remains under tight security and surveillance measures imposed by the Taliban administration—a situation that casts a shadow on the daily lives of the province’s residents.
