Petition on Gender Apartheid in Afghanistan Referred to European Parliament Committee

The European Parliament has announced that a petition titled ‘Recognition of Gender Apartheid in Afghanistan and Designation of the Taliban Administration as a Terrorist Organization’ has been referred to its Petitions Committee. After reviewing the content, the committee will issue its final decision in writing.
The official letter from the European Parliament emphasized that due to the high volume of registered petitions, the review process may take time. Nevertheless, the case will be assessed in accordance with the institution’s internal procedures.
This letter was addressed to Baktash Siawash, a former member of Afghanistan’s House of Representatives. According to the published document, the petition was registered under the title ‘Recognition of Gender Apartheid in Afghanistan and Designation of the Taliban.’
The European Parliament also noted that accepted petitions become public documents but remain subject to personal data protection regulations.
The issue of ‘gender apartheid’ is being raised within European institutions at a time when the Taliban administration, after returning to power, has imposed extensive restrictions on the education, labor, and social participation of women and girls in Afghanistan. These restrictions have consistently drawn reactions and criticism from international human rights organizations.
