ALBA Condemns US Military Threats Against Cuba as Danger to Regional Peace

The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) has strongly condemned recent statements by United States officials regarding the possible use of force against Cuba, describing them as a threat to peace and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean.

In a statement released via the Telegram channel of Ivan Gil Pinto, Venezuela’s Foreign Minister, ALBA member countries expressed deep concern over what they termed Washington’s “provocative remarks.” The statement emphasized that any threat to use force against Cuba could jeopardize security in the region.

ALBA called on the international community to take a firm stance against military threats toward Cuba and urged the US to engage in dialogue without preconditions, respecting Havana’s sovereignty and independence in accordance with the UN Charter. The alliance reiterated its readiness to strengthen mutual understanding among nations and to uphold peace in the region.

Founded in 2004, ALBA includes Antigua and Barbuda, Venezuela, Grenada, Dominica, Cuba, Nicaragua, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Saint Lucia.

Meanwhile, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel posted on the social media platform X that the US president has escalated threats of military action against Cuba to a “dangerous and unprecedented” level. He called on the international community to take the matter seriously and to reflect alongside the American people on the potential consequences of such a move.

Díaz-Canel alleged that these threats serve the interests of a “small but wealthy and influential group” motivated by revenge. He further stated that Cuba will not succumb to any aggression and will defend its sovereignty and independence.

In contrast, the US president declared that the United States could “take control of Cuba almost immediately” and even mentioned the possibility of deploying an aircraft carrier near the island’s shores.
