Afghanistan Exports First Pomegranate Shipment to Russia via Herat Crossing

The Taliban administration says that, for the first time, Afghan pomegranates have been exported to Russia through the Torghundi border crossing in Herat province.
Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the Taliban, released a statement describing the move as “valuable” and emphasized that it opens a new market for Afghanistan’s fresh fruit, particularly pomegranates.
Although the Taliban have portrayed the move as an economic success, they have not provided any details about the volume of the shipment, the exporting companies involved, or the terms of the agreement.
The lack of transparency in the export process suggests that despite its economic claims, the Taliban administration remains unable to provide clear information or accountability to the public. Economic experts have repeatedly warned that such practices could hinder Afghanistan’s foreign trade and erode trust.
