Taliban Approves 22 Infrastructure Projects Worth 3.5 Billion Afghanis

The National Procurement Commission, chaired by the Taliban’s Economic Deputy, approved 22 infrastructure projects worth a total of 3.5 billion Afghanis during its latest meeting on October 25. Out of 35 proposed projects, 22 were granted approval.
The approved projects include the construction of retaining walls, irrigation canals, inter-district roads in several provinces, a dormitory building for Maidan Wardak University, and the completion of pending electricity infrastructure across various provinces. According to the Taliban administration, all projects will be financed through domestic resources.
Despite the approvals, five projects were returned due to issues in the procurement process and implementation stages. Additionally, eight projects required revisions before receiving final approval.
The Taliban has prioritized infrastructure development, yet concerns remain over the transparency of project evaluations and budget allocation. Watchdog organizations and the public have expressed ongoing skepticism due to the lack of oversight agencies and the media’s limited access to the related documentation, which has weakened public trust in the management of national resources.
