First Advanced Nasal Tumor Surgery Successfully Performed in Balkh

Officials at Abu Ali Sina Balkhi Regional Hospital announced that, for the first time at this center, a Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) was successfully performed. In this procedure, a nasal tumor was removed from a 45-year-old patient by a specialized Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) team.

According to officials, the patient had been suffering from persistent nasal blockage and recurrent headaches before seeking treatment at the hospital. After undergoing surgery and completing the postoperative care period, the patient was discharged in satisfactory health.

The FESS method is considered a minimally invasive sinus surgery technique performed using an endoscope. Compared to open surgeries, it has fewer complications and a shorter recovery time. Performing this type of surgery in Balkh is regarded as an important step in providing specialized medical services in northern Afghanistan.

According to statistics provided by the center, the ENT department at the hospital served 23,726 patients during the year 1404 in the Solar Hijri calendar. Of these, 881 patients required hospitalization, and 874 underwent major surgical operations.

Hospital officials state that these figures indicate a growing demand for specialized services and continued expansion of medical capacities at this healthcare facility in northern Afghanistan.
