Afghan and Iranian Representatives Discuss Removing Trade Barriers

In a meeting held between Afghan and Iranian trade delegations, representatives from both sides discussed increasing facilities at ports and shared borders, issues related to currency obligations, issuing visas for truck drivers, and facilitating the passage of trucks through Iranian territory. The head of the Kandahar provincial trade delegation and chairman of the Afghanistan-Iran Joint Chamber of Commerce, Haji Kamaluddin Toheed, introduced investment potentials in Kandahar province and other economic sectors of Afghanistan. He emphasized the importance of attracting Iranian investments to develop the private sector. He also referred to investment opportunities announced by the Afghan Ministry of Industry and Commerce and called for expanding economic cooperation between the two countries. Both parties also stressed the necessity of removing trade barriers, strengthening coordination between economic institutions, and continuing joint cooperation to develop trade and investment relations. The meeting was attended by Mufti Noor Mohammad Mutawakkil, Consul General of Afghanistan in Mashhad, and several board members of the Afghanistan-Iran Joint Chamber of Commerce. It is worth mentioning that trade relations between Afghanistan and Iran have so far faced challenges due to various financial, customs, and visa obstacles. Economic actors hope these talks will lead to the implementation of greater facilities to ease commercial exchanges.
