Pakistan Reviews US Proposal to Deport Afghan Migrants via Its Territory

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that it is closely monitoring the US government’s proposal to return Afghan migrants through Pakistan. These remarks came after a US federal court recently halted the plan to deport a number of Afghan nationals. Sajjad Haider Khan, spokesperson for Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated in a press briefing on Friday that the matter is under review and all aspects of the proposal are being evaluated in cooperation with relevant agencies. Responding to questions about the deportation of dozens of Afghan migrants, he expressed Pakistan’s hope for a mutually acceptable solution to the issue. Earlier this week, a US federal court blocked the implementation of the Afghan deportation program. American media had reported last week that over 150 Afghan nationals were set to be returned from the US to Afghanistan, with Pakistan planned as the transit route. This move was part of the previous US administration’s stricter immigration policies, but the federal court’s suspension highlights the legal complexities and challenges facing such programs. While reviewing the issue, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that all potential implications and consequences are being carefully assessed.
