UNDP launches new economic recovery project in five Afghan provinces with South Korean support

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has announced the start of a new phase of its economic recovery project in Afghanistan, saying it is being supported by the South Korean mission in the process.

The project, known as “REVIVE II,” aims to strengthen livelihoods, rebuild social infrastructure, revive economic activity and increase community resilience in five provinces: Kabul, Paktia, Ghazni, Nangarhar and Kunar.

The programme is intended to continue reconstruction efforts designed on the basis of the achievements of the first phase and, in Afghanistan’s current economic and social conditions, seeks to have a tangible impact on people’s living conditions and the local economy.

However, the project is being implemented amid Taliban administration restrictions in the economic and social spheres, raising serious concerns about real progress in these areas. While the provinces targeted by the project have a pressing need for reconstruction and infrastructure improvements, widespread economic problems, sanctions and political instability remain among the main obstacles to progress.
