UNICEF to Provide Vaccines for Afghan Children with Japanese Support

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced the launch of a vaccination programme for children across Afghanistan and thanked the government and people of Japan for their continued support in this area.

According to the agency, the main goal of this cooperation is to increase children’s access to basic health services and prevent the spread of polio, which remains a serious threat to children’s health in Afghanistan.

UNICEF stressed that all children deserve a future free of polio and said it is committed to continuing to provide them with healthcare and vaccinations.

The agency also noted that more than 21 million Afghans need humanitarian assistance, saying many families do not have access to basic health services because of numerous restrictions.

UNICEF said the government and people of Japan have stood with and supported the children of Afghanistan for many years, but many challenges remain in the area of health services and healthcare for children.
