Former Pakistan envoy calls expulsion of Afghan medical students ‘shocking’
Asif Durrani, Pakistan’s former special envoy on Afghanistan, has described the expulsion of Afghan medical students as a “shocking” move and called for the decision to be reversed. He stressed that continuing this process, especially for girls who have gained access to education with great difficulty, could put their academic future at risk.
In a post on X on Tuesday, Sept. 17, Durrani wrote that expelling these students is not merely an administrative matter, but a human and moral issue. According to him, education is not an added privilege for these girls, but a decisive part of their future.
He urged Pakistani officials to reconsider the expulsion decision and allow the students to continue their studies. Durrani warned that sending them back to Afghanistan, under the current conditions, could seriously endanger their educational path.
The remarks come as educational restrictions in Afghanistan, particularly for girls, have already raised concerns about the fate of Afghan students. The expulsion of students from host countries has further intensified those worries about whether they can continue their education.
