Taliban administration, Russian ambassador in Kabul discuss expanding ties
The Taliban administration said acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi met with Russian Ambassador Dmitry Zhirnov in Kabul on Saturday.
According to the Taliban administration’s Foreign Ministry, the two sides discussed the expansion of bilateral relations, mutual interests and ways to further strengthen ties between Afghanistan and Russia.
The ministry said the regional situation was also among the topics of the meeting, and both sides, referring to current developments in the region, said continued relations between Afghanistan and Russia were in the interest of both countries.
The Taliban administration also said future cooperation between the two countries was discussed at the meeting, and emphasis was placed on further developing ties between Kabul and Moscow.
Russia is among the countries that have maintained political and diplomatic contacts with Kabul since the Taliban administration returned to power, and the Russian embassy in Afghanistan’s capital has remained operational.
