Foreign Investors Show Interest in Balkh-Herat Railway Reconstruction Project

Iran’s ambassador in Kabul has said that a number of Iranian and foreign investors have shown interest in investing in the reconstruction of the Balkh-Herat railway line. The matter was raised during his meeting with the director-general of Afghanistan’s railway administration.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Public Works, Alireza Bikdeli said in the meeting with Mawlawi Abdul Karim Fath that around 120,000 metric tons of transport are now being carried out monthly via the Khaf-Herat railway route. He said efforts are under way to increase this figure to 160,000 metric tons in the future.

Mawlawi Abdul Karim Fath also said at the meeting that the ground is ready for both domestic and foreign investment in this sector. He added that the railway administration is prepared to support and cooperate with foreign investors.

At the meeting, the two sides also discussed continued bilateral cooperation, expanding trade exchanges and advancing infrastructure projects between Afghanistan and Iran. The Khaf-Herat railway is considered one of the important transport routes between Afghanistan and Iran, connecting Herat province to Iran’s rail network.
