Popular Mobilisation Forces target ISIS positions and tunnels in Iraq’s Anbar

A security source in Iraq’s Anbar province said Popular Mobilisation Forces carried out a pre-emptive operation targeting tunnels and positions belonging to ISIS militants deep in the province’s desert areas.

According to Iraqi media, the operation was carried out after surveillance of parts of Rawah, west of the city of Ramadi, and storage depots used by ISIS members were also targeted during the raid.

The source said ISIS militants had been using these tunnels and depots to store oil products, weapons and food supplies.

Operations by the Popular Mobilisation Forces against the remnants of ISIS continue in various parts of Iraq. Anbar province, in western Iraq, is one of the country’s largest provinces, and some of its desert areas have in recent years been used by scattered ISIS cells.
