Death of National Resistance Front Commander Haseeb Panjshiri Sparks Reaction from Taliban Opponents

The killing of Haseeb Panjshiri, one of the commanders of the National Resistance Front, in northern Salang has prompted a broad reaction from political figures opposed to the Taliban administration and from a number of citizens.

Jihadi leader Mohammad Ismail Khan said in a statement on Saturday, 31 Asad, while offering condolences over the incident, that Haseeb Panjshiri had stood against the Taliban administration in the mountainous foothills of northern Afghanistan over the past five years, following the سقوط of the former system. He also stressed that this commander’s front line would not remain empty.

In part of his message, Ismail Khan said: “The blood of the country’s free sons will uproot the foundation of the oppressors.”

Haseeb Panjshiri was martyred on Thursday in an ambush by Taliban administration forces in northern Salang. News of his martyrdom has received wide coverage over the past two days, and a number of political leaders, anti-Taliban movements and citizens have praised his resistance against the administration.

Ahmad Massoud, leader of the National Resistance Front, also responded to the martyrdom of Haseeb Panjshiri by stressing retaliation against the Taliban administration, saying that soon the “tent of Taliban oppression and crime” will be dismantled.

Salang is considered one of the important passes between northern and central Afghanistan, and in recent years has repeatedly been the scene of clashes between Taliban administration forces and armed opponents of the administration.
