US Says It Will Intensify Sanctions Against Iran

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has announced that Washington will step up sanctions against Iran as part of its continued economic pressure on the country.

According to Al Jazeera, citing Mehr News Agency, Bessent claimed that US policy would leave Iran facing the “greatest economic isolation in history.” He also said the time had come for Iran’s allies and other countries to stop engaging with Tehran.

Without providing further details, the US Treasury secretary claimed that his country controls the Strait of Hormuz and that a large volume of oil passes through it. He also said Washington would impose the “harshest sanctions” on Iran.

Bessent further claimed that these measures would help reduce oil prices. His remarks come as US President Donald Trump has recently also announced tougher economic measures against Iran.

The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the world’s most important oil transit routes, and any tension surrounding it usually affects global energy markets.
