Red Cross-backed public works projects begin in Kunduz

Work has begun on two public welfare projects in Kunduz province with financial support from the International Committee of the Red Cross, projects that are expected to provide jobs for 213 people for one month.
According to published information, the projects will be carried out in the villages of Qala-e Ghaw and Bozkandahari, and their total cost has been put at 6 million Afghanis.
Under the programme, the main activities include clearing and digging canals, building water reservoirs and small bridges, and installing gabions along waterways.
Officials said the aim of the projects is to create short-term job opportunities for needy families, help improve their economic situation, and advance projects of public benefit.
The International Committee of the Red Cross is one of the international relief organisations that also works in humanitarian sectors and in support of vulnerable communities in Afghanistan.
