Taliban Administration Backs Efforts to Ease Afghanistan-Pakistan Tensions

Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban administration’s spokesman, has welcomed Norway’s call to reduce tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, saying Afghanistan considers dialogue, negotiation and peaceful means the best way to resolve disputes.

Mujahid also stressed that the Taliban administration’s policy is non-interference in the affairs of other countries and, he said, Afghan territory will not be used against others. The remarks come as tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan in recent months have become one of the main points in relations between the two sides.

The statement was made after Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, in a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart, emphasized the need to ease tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Norway is among the European countries that have played an active role on Afghanistan in recent years, particularly in diplomacy and humanitarian aid.
