Taliban Tightens Restrictions in Takhar After Opposition Attacks

Local sources say the Taliban administration has imposed stricter restrictions on residents of Warsaj district in Takhar province and has limited night-time movement in the area following a rise in attacks by opposition fronts.

According to the sources, Taliban forces do not allow people to leave their homes after 9 p.m. The sources added that these restrictions were tightened after the administration increased its presence in the area.

Sources told 8am newspaper on Tuesday, Aug. 20, that the Taliban administration had previously established a security checkpoint in the Wagnan area and Balakhawz section of Warsaj district, where 12 soldiers were stationed. According to the sources, the number of forces deployed at this checkpoint has now risen to more than 300.

The sources said the increase in troops was due to a rise in attacks by fronts opposing the Taliban administration in Takhar. The Taliban administration has not yet made any official statement on the matter.

The village of Wagnan is located on the border between Pariyan in Panjshir province and Badakhshan, an area that is strategically important for movement and security activity because it borders several provinces.
