Taliban Authorities Report Distribution of Over 650,000 Passports in Past Year
Zabiullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban administration, announced that more than 650,000 regular passports have been distributed in Afghanistan over the past lunar year, and visas for over 16,000 foreign nationals have also been renewed.
He shared these statistics during a program titled “Governance in the Mirror of the Press” as part of the “Public Service Week.” Mujahid stated that the General Directorate of Passports has simplified administrative procedures by reducing the passport registration form from nine pages to just one page.
According to Mujahid, the General Directorate of Statistics and Information also distributed nearly two million electronic identity cards and about one million paper identity cards during the year 1447 AH. Additionally, they provided hundreds of thousands of in-person and online services related to identity card corrections.
The Taliban spokesperson further claimed that the state-owned company “Afghan Post” transferred over five million domestic parcels in the past year and expanded services such as document authentication and verification, launching urgent services, establishing a customer service center, and delivering documents to doorsteps.
While the distribution of identity documents and providing postal services are routine responsibilities of government institutions, the Taliban administration has presented these figures as part of its one-year record in the public services sector.
