Taliban Deputy Interior Minister Calls for Accelerated Eradication of Opium Cultivation in Nangarhar

Abdul Rahman Munir, Deputy for Narcotics Control at the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior, visited the Wazir area in Khogyani district of Nangarhar province to closely inspect the ongoing eradication of opium poppy cultivation. He emphasized the need to speed up anti-narcotics efforts and to follow and implement what he referred to as the “Supreme Command of Amir al-Mu’minin.” Since regaining power, the Taliban administration has declared opium cultivation illegal and cites this prohibition as part of its core policies.

Munir also visited the reconstruction progress of the supportive and rehabilitation center for addicts in Nangarhar, instructing officials to expedite its restoration, completion, and activation as soon as possible.

According to narcotics control officials within the Taliban administration in Nangarhar, they have pledged to undertake further measures to fulfill their responsibilities and intensify efforts in combating drugs. Nangarhar province, located in eastern Afghanistan, has historically been a significant center for opium poppy cultivation.
