US Senate Welcomes Bill to Halt Afghan Deportations Until 2029

The organization ‘Afghan EVOC’ has welcomed the introduction of a bill to grant Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Afghan nationals in the US Senate, considering it a step to prevent their deportation until July 1, 2029.

On Friday, August 7, the organization issued a statement on its X page announcing that, if passed, the bill would temporarily halt the deportation of eligible Afghans.

According to the statement, implementing TPS would allow the eligible individuals to continue working in the United States while pursuing legal processes related to their residency.

‘Afghan EVOC’ emphasized that the approval of this bill could provide greater stability and legal support for Afghans who were brought to the US following the withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan in 2021. Temporary Protected Status is a mechanism within US immigration laws enacted in emergency situations for nationals of certain countries.
