Taliban and Iranian Officials Stress Reducing Visa and Transit Issues at Islam Qala Border
Taliban administration officials and representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasized the need to reduce visa issuance problems and resolve transit challenges at the Islam Qala crossing during a meeting in Herat. These issues have overshadowed the movement of traders and residents of both countries in recent years.
The Press Office of the Herat Province announced that Seyed Hassan Mortazavi, Deputy Ambassador of Iran in Kabul, visited Herat and met with Eslamjar, the Taliban-appointed governor of the province, to discuss expanding economic, trade, and transit cooperation.
According to the statement, the Herat governor called for further facilitation in the visa issuance process for citizens, increasing the volume of trade through the Islam Qala port, and addressing transport-related problems at the Dogharun-Islam Qala border.
The Iranian deputy ambassador also emphasized enhanced coordination between Kabul and Tehran to facilitate visa issuance and boost trade transfers, stating that necessary steps will be taken to solve existing issues in trade and transit.
Islam Qala, located in Herat province, is one of the most important border crossings between Afghanistan and Iran, with a significant portion of bilateral trade passing through this route. Nonetheless, traders have consistently complained about administrative and transit challenges along this path.
