Report to US Congress Shows Significant Delays in Military Arms Production
A report presented to the US Congress reveals that the actual production timeline in the country’s military industries has significantly lagged behind the schedule set in arms contracts. This issue could pose challenges to the plan to replace equipment sent to Ukraine.
According to the report, Washington has allocated $45.78 billion to replace the weaponry shipped to Ukraine in 2022. By the end of March 2026, contracts worth more than 90% of this amount, equivalent to $41.47 billion, have been signed. However, actual payments to manufacturers have not exceeded 41% of the contract value, amounting to $17.1 billion.
The report emphasizes that, based on US government contracts, contractors are entitled to receive payments only after completing work stages or final delivery of products. Therefore, the level of payments made serves as an indicator of actual progress in producing military equipment.
The document also notes that after Joe Biden’s term, the volume of US weapon shipments to Ukraine has decreased fivefold.
Previously, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned that any arms shipments sent to Ukraine would be considered legitimate targets by Russia. The Kremlin has also stated that continued arming of Ukraine by Western countries could negatively affect the negotiation processes and efforts to resolve the crisis.
