Security Incident Involving Oil Tanker Reported in the Southern Red Sea

The UK Maritime Administration has reported that an oil tanker passing through the southern Red Sea collided with an unidentified object, and a projectile was also detected nearby.
According to the report, the tanker has reported the incident, but no details have yet been released regarding the extent of possible damage, the nationality of the tanker, or the type of its cargo.
This event comes amid rising tensions in the Red Sea. Yemeni armed forces have previously declared that, in response to what they describe as the intensified air and naval blockade of their country by Saudi Arabia, they are targeting Saudi ports, shipping, and the kingdom’s oil exports in the Red Sea.
Following similar incidents involving several vessels linked to Saudi Arabia in recent days, it has been reported that some ships have altered their routes to avoid the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a strategic passage through which a significant portion of global trade flows.
