Iraq’s Al-Sayed Al-Shuhada Brigades Threaten to Close Bab al-Mandab Strait
Abu al-Alaa al-Wala’i, Secretary-General of Iraq’s Al-Sayed Al-Shuhada Brigades, expressed support for the people of Yemen and warned that if pressures continue, closing the Bab al-Mandab Strait would become a legitimate option—a move that could impact one of the main global trade routes.
In a message on the social media platform X, he wrote that the concept of deterrence is not limited to nuclear weapons. According to him, the geographical position of regional countries has enabled them to influence key arteries of global trade.
Al-Wala’i emphasized that if all lifelines to the people of Yemen are cut off, they have the right to close the Bab al-Mandab Strait so the world understands that the Yemeni nation “will not die silently.”
He also addressed Saudi Arabia, saying: “End the siege of Yemen so the strait remains open to you. If you increase pressure on Yemen, the passage of this strait will become narrow for you as well.” The Bab al-Mandab Strait is one of the vital maritime passages between the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, through which a significant portion of oil exports and commercial goods pass.
