Russian Official Warns Europe and UK to Recognize Their Limits in Global Affairs

A senior Russian official has urged the European Union and the United Kingdom to recognize their “limits” in international affairs and to accept their status as followers of the United States.

According to the Novosti news agency, Kirill Dmitriev, the special representative of the Russian president, stated that Brussels and London are trying to portray themselves as “middle powers,” a stance that has caused concern in Washington. He emphasized that countries aligned with Washington must understand the boundaries of their roles.

Dmitriev added that the EU and the UK are pursuing a misguided strategy, which cannot lead to an independent standing for them. According to him, this approach will only intensify internal divisions within the Western camp.

These remarks come in response to comments by a U.S. Department of Defense official, who said that the so-called “middle power” strategy would ultimately result only in wasted time and financial resources.

The term “middle powers” in political discourse refers to countries that, without global hegemony, play significant economic and political roles regionally and internationally.
