Qatar Says It Supports Afghanistan and Region With Humanitarian Aid and Reconstruction

Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al-Misnad, Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, said her country has plans for humanitarian aid, diplomacy, mediation and reconstruction financing for Afghanistan, Gaza, Sudan, Lebanon, Somalia and Syria.

She made the remarks at a session titled “Humanitarian Diplomacy and the Water-Security Nexus” held as part of the fifth Doha International Conference on International Security, while stressing the importance of protecting vital water infrastructure in armed conflicts.

The Qatari minister also called for stronger global cooperation to preserve essential resources and ensure people have access to clean water.

However, field reports and analyses indicate that humanitarian aid and reconstruction in Afghanistan still face many challenges, including restrictions imposed by the Taliban administration, which have had negative effects on the lives and rights of the country’s people.
