Somali Military Kills Al-Shabaab Commander in Recent Operation

Somalia’s Ministry of Defense announced that in a recent military operation in the Lower Shabelle region, one Al-Shabaab commander and six members of the group were killed, and their positions were destroyed.
According to the Ministry’s statement, the operation targeted a gathering place of Al-Shabaab members, where authorities said the militants were preparing to carry out an attack.
The Ministry emphasized that operations against Al-Shabaab commanders, fighters, and infrastructure across the country will continue, aiming to fully secure national safety.
Al-Shabaab has been conducting armed attacks against the Somali government and international peacekeeping forces since 2006 and continues to do so. Since 2022, the Somali military, with support from international partners, has launched extensive operations in central and southern regions of the country to weaken the group.
