Sanaa Official Warns of Irreversible Decision to Break Yemen’s Airblockade
Mohammed Maftah, the head of the Sanaa government, has warned that the decision to break the ongoing air blockade on Yemen, imposed by the Saudi-led coalition, is irreversible. He emphasized that the Yemeni people, under the leadership of Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, are firmly determined to end what he called the ‘American-Saudi blockade.’
According to media close to Sanaa, Maftah spoke at a large gathering among Yemenis, stating that any party supporting the blockade must accept the consequences. He added that Yemen holds multiple deterrent options and can pursue its rights through various means.
The Yemeni official further cautioned that any action against the country’s airfields, airspace, or people would come with a ‘heavy price.’ He asserted that any fresh attacks or measures by the Saudi coalition and its allies would be met with a response.
Maftah also expressed gratitude for Iran’s announced support in countering Yemen’s air and sea blockade. He said Iranian officials have assured their backing for Yemen on this matter, which, according to him, is a significant issue for Sanaa.
The air and sea blockade on Yemen has been one of the main sources of tension among the conflicting parties in recent years and has been repeatedly criticized by officials in Sanaa.
