Widespread International Media Coverage of Funeral of Iran’s Martyred Leader

As the fourth day of the funeral ceremonies for the martyred leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution takes place in the city of Qom, international media outlets have extensively reported on the large turnout of mourners and the scale of the event. Images released by major news networks and agencies show massive crowds gathered in this religious city.
CNN shared a video stating that the funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei continued on Tuesday and is currently underway in the holy city of Qom. Reuters highlighted the significant public presence, describing the ceremony as more than a “national farewell,” carrying political messages at the regional level.
The Associated Press reported that Iranian mourners gathered in large numbers in Qom to honor their late leader. Al Jazeera announced that hundreds of thousands attended the Jamkaran Mosque, adding that the ceremony will continue in the Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala, before the body is laid to rest in Mashhad.
The newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat reported that the streets of Qom were filled with people on the fourth day of the ceremonies. The paper noted that some participants chanted slogans including “Death to America,” a slogan it said is heard at some official gatherings in Iran.
Other media outlets including Yedioth Ahronoth, Seoul Economic Daily, China’s CGTN, Xinhua News Agency, South China Morning Post, and Russia’s RT network also shared images and reports highlighting the vast crowds at the Qom event. Some reports mentioned incidents such as stones being thrown at a picture of Donald Trump, the U.S. president, describing these acts as carrying political messages.
Additionally, the Saudi Gazette reported that funeral prayers were held at the Jamkaran Mosque with delegations from several countries including Turkey, Iraq, Pakistan, and Afghanistan attending. Extensive coverage of the event by regional and global media has emphasized the international significance of the ceremonies. Russia’s RT news network also released footage of the passionate crowd present at the event.
