Five Afghan Paralympians Head to Japan for Asian Para Games

Afghanistan’s General Directorate of Olympic, Physical Education and Sports says five Paralympic athletes from the country, competing in three sports, left Kabul on Saturday for Japan to take part in the fifth Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
The authority said in a statement posted on the social media platform X that Afghanistan’s Paralympic delegation has travelled to the city of Nagoya to compete in the 2026 Asian Para Games. According to the body, the athletes will compete in para powerlifting, para taekwondo and table tennis.
According to the information provided, the athletes held a farewell meeting before their departure with Ahmadullah Wasiq, head of Afghanistan’s General Directorate of Olympic, Physical Education and Sports. During the meeting, Wasiq described Afghanistan’s participation in international competitions as part of the department’s efforts to maintain the country’s sporting standing in Asia.
The games’ organising committee has announced that the fifth Asian Para Games will be held in Nagoya from October 18 to November 2, with around 4,000 athletes from 40 countries taking part. The competitions are scheduled across 18 sports and are considered one of the major sporting events for people with disabilities in Asia.
